Winner 2018
Amanda Kernell

Jury’s statement

After the success of the film “Sameblod”, there is no doubt that this year’s Golden Apple winner is already an established name in the film industry, as well as a future promise for Swedish film. Despite this, Amanda Kernell is still young in her art and, with her thematic choice, has also opened up for a greater diversity and discourse in Swedish film, which must be seen as a feat in itself.

Amanda Kernell is currently living in Copenhagen, but she has her roots in Umeå where she, via the municipal cultural school activities at the cultural center for children and young people, got acquainted early with theater and acting, a course she completed in four years of study at the Danish film school. – a training seat that among other things, launched directors such as Susanne Bier and Billie August.

It is with great pride that the jury submits this year’s Golden Apple with the hope that the accompanying award will give the necessary call for reflection and recovery and provide the conditions for continued artistic creation.

We wish the 2018 Golden Apple winner Amanda Kernell great luck on the national and international film scene.
